Gentle Savior + Mighty Sword

Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain down the Just One!
Open, O earth, and bring forth the Savior!

These are the words which the Church called out as we passed through the season of Advent.  In our commemorative longing for the Messiah to be born, and in our longing for Him to descend more deeply into our souls, and in our looking forward to His return in glory, we dwelt upon these words of the prophet Isaiah.

At His coming, now, the Church calls all mankind to rejoice, and to lay aside our wayward lives.  Hearken to this subtle Light which, softly and sweetly, emerges in the dark of this world.

He comes not to bring Judgment upon the earth, but as the Liberator and Friend of man, to whom He desires to impart the joy of the Blessed.  The Light has descended from the eternal realms, beckoning man to look there for his salvation and fulfillment.

Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see!
Hail, the Incarnate Deity!

The Son of God, even upon first entering into our world, begins to conquer the evils herein and extend His reign across the earth.  Evil men were driven mad at the very mention of His coming, but those who longed for the Truth sensed His presence and sought Him.

For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
(I John 5:4)

God from God descends to man, drawing the sword of division against our evils.  As the wicked rose up with weapons against Him, to slay Him in His infancy, behold He issued forth the sword of Truth, cutting away our idolatry and devotion to worldly spirits, whether idols or demons or disordered passions.  The evil Lord of the World came face to face with the One whom he, in the first days, sought to escape.

This, this is Christ the King!
whom shepherds guard and angels sing!

At the first, the fallen world, under the dominion of him whom Our Lord named the 'Father of Lies,' the 'Prince of Darkness,' a slaughter was brought about, a desperate attempt to snuff out the God-made-man.  The error of that early Prince is perpetuated in the hearts that turn away from God and submit only to their own wills.  We must never glorify ourselves in the place of God!

Our Lord is the Eternal Wisdom who brings the Truth about God and man.  He gives Himself gently and fully to His disciples.  Heed His wisdom!  Let Him be your master, and follow Him in this world.  When life is confusing, turn to Him.  When life is distressing, turn to Him.  When life is beautiful, turn to Him.  In all things, good and evil, turn to Him.

He is our Teacher, our Liberator, and our Life - He is our God.  He made us.  He will finish the work He has begun and fulfill our longings for eternal life and peace.

The One who descended as a little babe grew to pronounce these words to His disciples:

These things I have spoken to you, that in me you may have peace.
In the world you shall have distress:
but have confidence, I have overcome the world.

Let us cry out our Christmas praises, never ceasing to let them ring within our hearts!  Let them issue forth from our mouths and sound throughout the world for all to hear, that, like the magi from the East, those who are searching in the darkness may behold that Light which radiates from within us - Jesus Christ, the Son of God!

Hail! the heaven-born Prince of peace!

Hail! the Son of Righteousness!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the new-born King!
